The Slovak 3. Liga - East Group is about to begin and 1. FK Svidník are ready for a new start in this competition. In the season that has recently ended in June, they classified 11th (out of 14 teams which finished), not quite the expected position. To be fair, they had a good first half of the season but after the departure of head coach L'ubomir Horochonič in winter, the team struggled in spring under the command of Alojz Lehocký.
One may suppose that the club had some financial difficulties but received a subsidy from Svidník municipality. The mayor of Svidník, Marcela Ivančova, made the necessary steps and the club received 35,000 Euro in April 2019. In the meantime, the relations between the mayor and the club president, Adrián Labun, have become tense as the club president asked for a more substantial involvement of the municipality, while the mayor asked for an analysis of what happened to the subsidy provided, according to Podduklianske Novinky, a local newspaper.

Therefore, in the first days of July 2019, the club president was changed. The new president is Jozef Žák, CEO of the company Agro Eko Farma and well-known for his interest in football. He brought in a new management team, consisting of Adrián Hricov (sporting director) and Robert Petruš (head coach), both from the city of Prešov. The town of Svidník, represented by the mayor, Marcela Ivančova, would remain a very important sponsor of the club.

The preparations for the new season have begun on the 8th of July with many new players. The final roster is still to be decided, within days from the first official game of the season, to kick-off Saturday, the 27th of July, at 5pm, away at Spišská Nová Ves. It is likely that many of the former players would not continue, as even the partnership with Partizan Bardejov, a team playing in the Slovak 2. Liga, might not be renewed, as they also have some financial difficulties. Many of the last season Svidník players were on loan from Partizan Bardejov, and it is possible that their loans are not extended.
1. FK Svidník have also played a friendly match at home against 1. FC Tatran Prešov, which they lost 3-1 (0-0), on Wednesday, the 17th of July.
