Friday, the 5th of July 2019, 15:00 local time (20:00 UTC), Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Cusco (Peru), the third and last round of the group stage of Copa Bicentenario, Group G
This game only decided the first and second classified in this group, as Real Garcilaso and Academia Cantolao were both already qualified for the next stage of Copa Bicentenario, winning the two previous matches, against Cienciano and Cultural Santa Rosa. Because of the goal difference, Real Garcilaso would have finished first even in case of a draw, while Academia Cantolao needed to win the game in order to top the group.
However, the game was considered as rather unimportant and treated merely as a friendly match by both teams, a last test before the start of the Clausura next week.
The home side started better and Alfredo Ramua scored early for Real Garcilaso, 1-0 (15'). Hernan Rengifo scored a second goal for Real Garcilaso right before half time (45'+3') and the game was pretty much decided at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the visitors tried to come back in the game but Real Garcilaso increased their advantage on the break, by means of Danilo Carando, assisted by Alfredo Ramua (72').
Eventually, the visitors succeeded to score deservedly their only goal in the final minutes, when the referee gave a penalty for a foul in the area, transformed by Ponce: 3-1 (82').
Lineups:
Real Garcilaso: Farro - Herrera, Robles, Benincasa, Rivas - Miguez, Nunez (Archimbaud 46') - Souza (Carando 67'), Ramua, Lecaros (G. Guerrero 46') - H. Rengifo. Head coach: Juan Reynoso.
Academia Cantolao: Nicosia - C. Sanchez, Atoche (Ponce 46'), Salas, Jasaui - Barco, C. Ramirez, Albarracin, Pizarro (Lasso 61') - S. Rengifo, La Torre. Head coach: Jorge Araujo.
Referee: Gherson Huiman.
Unfortunately, the game was not broadcasted by any TV channel and was only available live on radio.
In the round of 16, Real Garcilaso will play against the second classified in Group H, FBC Melgar. There will be only one game between the 9th and 11th of August, and most likely Real Garcilaso will play away.
